ADHD Awareness Month + New Updates

Hey Prosper Fam! 

October is ADHD Awareness Month. ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is characterized by difficulty paying attention, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. Did you know that 8.8% of children from the ages of 4-17 and 4.4% of adults aged 18-44 experience ADHD? 

This month, we celebrate the successes of those living with ADHD and raise awareness about ways to support those who face daily challenges. ADHD is not a result of laziness or lack of intelligence, rather a neurobiological condition that requires care and understanding. 

Prosper is here to help you build routines to stay on track.

Set Habits 

Using Prosper's habit tracking feature, you can create specific reminders for important tasks. For example, you can get notified everyday to take your medications to ensure you don't ever miss them. Other uses of the habit feature could be for exercise, sleep, assignments, self-care, and creative time. ADHD can make it hard to stay productive, but with the help of habit tracking you'll stay on track!

Journal 

Journaling can be a helpful grounding practice to declutter the mind in the midst of ADHD's chaos. Writing down thoughts and feelings can improve emotional regulation and self-awareness. It's a way to gain insight into your own experiences, understand emotions, and even boost communication skills over time.

Meditations and Mindfulness 

Use Prosper's 'Activities' tab to support emotional regulation and focus. We have short, guided practices that can help users stay grounded without requiring long attention spans. Start your day with the "Morning Motivation" practice which is just five minutes and can help clear your mind when things start to feel chaotic.

Wondering how to support someone with ADHD? 

If you want to help them clean or organize, try to do it with them vs for them. People with ADHD usually have a set way of doing things or way of remembering where they put their belongings so it's best to not mess this up. Helping collaboratively keeps that structure intact. 

Encourage them to break tasks into chunks to help them stay focused and productive.

Create a sense of urgency. Instead of saying “do it whenever,” try asking, “When do you think you could get this done?” Having a set timeframe can help boost motivation. Listen and empathize with their struggles. Sometimes the best support is simply being there. Let them share their thoughts, validate their experiences, and remind them they're not alone.
